Goodfellas Pizza, Inc. was established in West Fargo, North Dakota in 2006 by Ryan Endres and Tom Jerome. The restaurant specializes in fresh, made-to-order pizzas, calzones and a variety of appetizers. Goodfellas makes its pizza dough fresh every morning and touts "best in town" toppings. Its pizzas are available by delivery, carry-out, take & bake and of course by dining in the restaurant itself. Goodfellas offers pizza packages as well as children's birthday party packages.

While it's obvious that Goodfellas delivers on what its customers need, that wasn't always the case with its banking relationship.

"My former bank seemed really indifferent to me and the business that Goodfellas was doing with them," says Tom. "Timing is everything, and Alerus called on me at the right time. But more than that, our Alerus banker has really followed through on making the relationship we have with Alerus a good one."

Situation

To make a delicious pizza, it's important to have the right ingredients. Similarly, to create a successful business relationship, key factors are needed.

"The primary expectations I have are for my banking relationship are mutual trust, simplicity and convenience," says Tom. "My Alerus relationship manager and Alerus itself have actually far exceeded those expectations. In addition, I've found honesty and someone I can communicate with on a regular basis."

Because of the current challenging economic times, it's been more important than ever that Tom have a trusting bank and banker relationship. For example, Goodfellas recently introduced a frozen product to the market and needed advice and assistance from Alerus in doing so. "We've worked hard to be creative and are trying new things that we may not have had to do under different economic circumstances. Alerus has been with us every step of the way."

Solution

"It's nice to know that Alerus looks for ways to support us and brings additional value to our relationship," concludes Tom. "There is really no comparison to what I get from my Alerus banker. Alerus seems to have real interest and trust in what Goodfellas is doing and want to help us grow. That's important to us."
